We decided to head to Skagway to explore the area. We were in Dawson City, YT two years ago, so seeing where the miners began their journey should be fun.
The scenery from Whitehorse to Carcross and to the border is awesome. We crossed Lake Bennett, and then made our way over an area that could have been the Moon, it was so desolate. One minute we were in Pine trees, the next-- rocks! Then we climbed up to 3200 feet into the clouds. We had very little visibility and who knows what was on the other side of the guard rails! All we did is keep our emergency lights on and drive very slowly up and down the summit. We were in the clouds for at least 5 miles. Pretty eerie!!
We reached the border, and then the fun began! Very steep hill down the mountain. By the end we could smell our brakes getting pretty hot. The only thing I kept thinking was, "Great, I gotta drive up this thing!!"
Found a real nice campground, Pullen RV Park. We'll be exploring Skagway tomorrow.
